Do I need to use an insurance broker to buy business insurance?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I run a small independent shop, and require business insurance. Does anyone offer this direct like household and motor, or do I have to use a specialist broker?

Business insurance is much more complicated than home or Auto insurance. Although there may be websites that offer coverages, what coverages do you need and what coverages are just wasted money? Not many people know the answers to these questions when shopping for business insurance.

I would recommend using an independent insurance agent as they can market to multiple insurance companies and make sure to find you the best deal out there. And as stated above, insurance agents are NOT middle men, we are an INDEPENDENT individual that is here to help you find the right coverages for your business. Would you rather have an employee of the insurance company telling you about the "specials" and "discounts" their products have, or would you rather have an independent agent tell you which company is the best fit for you?

Companies that write direct did not ELIMINATE the "middle man", they just hired him and now has to pay him commission and pay for his benefits.

Good luck to you!

How does the insurance company find out about moving violations?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

My understanding is that when you get a moving violation (e.g, a speeding ticket), the police or the courts or whoever will notify your insurance company. When your insurance company finds out and finds out about the points that are now on your license, they raise your insurance premium. However, a friend tells me that he’s received several speeding tickets, that his insurance company has never found out (meaning no one is notifying his insurance company), and that his premium has therefore never gone up. How is that possible?

hes got to be lying or had lawyer take his tickets to court and won!
tickets are sent to the states motor vechicle division, thats how they find out about your tickets!

What is the worst part about getting life insurance quotes?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I am writing an article and i am trying to get the insight on the most difficult part about finding life insurance quotes.

Also, what are some things you worry about in general when it comes to life insurance?

Any insights would be much appreciated. My family and i just went through this because we had a baby girl. But i would definitely be interested in more opinions than my own :)

Death:) Just kidding! Congrats on the baby girl!!
Life insurance quotes is complicated but not that bad. I just did the same thing and got a great Term Life policy for me and my kids and grand daughter. It pays off the mortgage and other medical expenses, plus burial and final expenses. Six people(and I’m a smoker) for only $62 a month. It does reassure me that in the event (which is always possible) that anyone dies (God forbid) we won’t have to struggle with trying to give them a respectable, decent burial and try to go on with our lives.
***My police includes an even split for 5 people of $100,000.*** if I go first. I have all of my insurance ( car, home and life) with Farmers Ins. Group.
I had no difficulties. I did mostly everything over the phone. My agent( I have the greatest agent in the world) sent me everything I had to sign and in about a week I got the call that everything was approved. It was all painless. I sent the first premium and I was done. Try this site

with commercial insurance I need to know what it means when the defense costs are outside the policy limits?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I need to know with commercial insurance what does it mean when you are asked; Are the defense cost outside the policy limits.

Will it be cheaper to Defend against the lawsuit or pay off the claim?

If the Defense Costs are outside of the policy limits then it would be cheaper to just try and pay off the person filing the lawsuit.

Wanting to know how to become a insurance claims adjuster ?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I ‘m looking for a new career and kinda of interested in insurance claims adjuster and like to know what i need to qualify for the job !

The better question is why would you want to become a claims adjuster.

PROS –
-never boring.
-decent to great benefits and salary after 3 or more yrs experience.
-Outside/field adjusters have a little more freedom than their counterparts who are stuck back at the cubicle farm.
-You have an opportunity to help people when they need it most, especially on legit house fires.

CONS -
-Deal with a lot of angry people.
-Make people even angrier by denying claims or not paying them what they THINK they deserve.
-Managers who don’t remember what it is like to be a claims adjuster.
-Have to deal with scumbag lawyers making BS injury claims for their scumbag clients.
-More files than 2 or 3 people could reasonably handle.
-fraudulent files.

Some insurance companies hire people without any experience so they can train you how they want. However, that requires starting at the bottom and working your way up.

Other common ways to get into a claims job is to have experience as a cop, house builder or body shop technician. Having experience in one of these areas can get you started at a salary above the base starting salary.

Good Luck

How long is a insurance company required to give before they cancel your insurance?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

My insurance called me yesterday and informed me that they would be cancelling my insurance because I have rented my house to a group of students. They gave me two weeks to find new insurance before they cut me off. I’m having trouble finding someone who will insure us. If they cut my insurance, my bank will cancel my mortgage, and I guess that means I’d lose the house. Is this insurance company allowed to drop me in this manner. When we got the insurance two months ago there was nobody living in the house, but it was rental insurance. We never lied or anything, we were completely honest through the whole process.

most insurance policies range from 30 to 90 days on a cancellation for non payment.

You need to stop and read your policy carefully. If this is a home owners policy there is likely an exclusion for using the house as a business.

When you bought the insurance you were probably purchased it through an agent. He didnt care what you told him. all he wanted to do was sale the policy. It’s the underwriter that now wants to cancel it.

Bottom line. I think that you have two options.
1. Purchase a commercial property insurance policy. (expensive but doable.)

2. Search around and find another homeowners insurance policy and buy 1M dollars worth of umbrella coverage.

I’d spend my time looking for option two. The minute you ask about an umbrella, agents will be knocking your door down.

Is it necessary to buy Rental Car Insurance even though i have my car insurance policy with me?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I have a car and have taken Auto insurance for it.
Now my question is if i take a rental car, then my auto insurance policy for my car covers it or i need to take separate insurance for the rental car? When i took the auto insurance policy, they have taken my car details and its present in the insurance card also.
If i need to take insurance for rental car, what type of insurance do i need to take excluding my auto insurance policy coverage that applies to all cars?
Also if i am driving someone else car, will my insurance cover if there is any accident i have made?

When you rent a car, you have to have full coverage on the care that you own (your personal vehicle) and then that will automatically carry over to the rental. If you do not have full coverage you can add it to your existing policy for the amount of time you’ll be renting the car OR just buy the insurance from the rental place. And to answer your other question, no your policy will not cover somebody else’s car just because you’re driving it. Insurance covers vehicles, NOT people, even if you were in an at fault accident, your friend/relative’s insurance would have to cover that loss.

Where can I get an insurance quote?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I want to get an insurance quote on my car but every site I go to asks me for a lot of information such as address, name and other personal things. Is this how you have to do it? Or is there a site where you just type in your birthday and info about your car? I just want an approximate quote. I’m only 16 and would be insuring a 1974 Ford Mustang II with a v6. How much do you think that would be?

Whats the best site for quotes?

All insurance companies are going to ask for all the information so they can get as close as possible without running your motor vehicle report.

you can google ‘cheap auto insurance’ and you’ll come up with quite a few.

Why home insurance companies are sensitive to lapses in the insurance?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

When I shop for a home insurance I am always asked if my home is currently insured or if there are lapses in my insurance policy. Some companies outright refuse to give me a quote when I tell them that I haven’t had home insurance in the last 3-4 months. I am wondering why this is important for them?! They just referred to their company policy and did not give me any meaningful reasoning. Who’s the best company for home insurance? Thank you for your answer.

http://best-home-insurance-comparator-usa.blogspot.com/

Here you can get quotes from different home insurance companies in your area, its the best way to find an affordable home insurance with a reliable company.

Insurance companies are wary of lapses in any kind of insurance policies. In your case it just happened to be home insurance.

The single most feared factor in the insurance business is not hurricanes, not bush-fires, not wars, not meteor strikes but what’s known as ‘moral hazard’. Moral hazard is, in simple terms, lack of inhibition in preferring a claim under less than above-the-board circumstances.

For example, if your camera is insured for home use only, you cannot make a claim if the insured camera suffers damage during a jungle safari. Most of us, being honest persons, would not even want to claim under such circs. However, since, as a rule it takes all kinds to make this world, there exist individuals who would make a claim as if the damage occurred at home. Such individuals are considered to be ‘moral hazards’.

Coming back to your original question, insurance companies know from empirical evidence that the incidence of moral hazard is greater – much greater – in those cases where there’s a break iin coverage. It’s likely that the insured is trying to renew the policy after a loss has occurred.

You need to provide evidence to the insurance company that you did not intend to let the policy lapse. That it lapsed, is a fortuitous happenning (please note the wording – underwriters love such language) and not a deliberate omission. ‘I do not want to be penalised for something over which I had no control’ is the line you need to take. You could strike lucky with this line.
