I hit my wife’s car, backing out of a garage, couple of years ago and I just found out that my insurance company, MERCURY, reported this incident as two separate incidents, one for my car and one for my wife’s car. I was trying to change my insurance carrier and found out that I’m not classified as a "good driver" because I have two incidents in 3 year period on my driving record. Mercury insurance intentionally did this to get 2 deductible payments from me ($500 to fix my car and $500 to fix my wife’s car) Is there anything I can do to undo what this terrible company has done?
That is correct – since you own both vehicles, most likely both vehicles on the same policy – they cannot handle it under 1 claim – the reasoning? You cannot pursue a liability claim against your own policy. There is nothing that you can do – as this is the correct procedure. If you had questions about this before – you should have asked your adjuster to explain it when you realized you had to pay 2 deductibles. You can also go review your original policy as it will explain this as well.
The only thing you can do – is request Mercury claims to write you a letter, explaining 1 ax is at fault, the other was not – and have them explain why 2 claims were filed.
