Do insurance companies verify your college transcript for a good student discount?

I am a 19 year old college student i have car insurance with dad that added me to his car insurance so i wouldn’t have to pay thousands of dollars myself. Recently my dad has been asking me for my grades because he heard i was eligible to get a "good student discount". I would have to have a 3.0 GPA or higher, unfortunately i do not have a GPA in that area. I was just wondering if car insurance companies completely verify a college transcript.

The verify it somehow. They might be satisfied with the grade reports that are sent each semester, and not insist on a transcript. But they will not take your word for it.

The following is a statement just made here on YA. Can anyone make any sense out of this comment? The insurance companies simply pass on costs to consumers.

"Everyone will have access to affordable health care insurance regardless of any preexisting condition. This will take the burden of the uninsured off the tax payer and place it on the insurance companies who have been raping the people for years."

Where do people learn to think like this?

Insurers can drop people with pre-existing conditions or deny coverage altogether for people to are unwell. So insurance companies do not have any ill effects right now from the uninsured. These sick people end up going to the emergency room when their health conditions reach a critical point (something that would not happen had they had access to decent primary care). The cost of that hospital visit is passed on to all taxpayers in higher direct care costs. The insurance cos. sure get their money though. You might as well think about the money going directly from your pocket to the ins co profits.

With the health reform plan currently before congress, the insurance companies will no longer get away with only covering the healthy. The government will force the insurance companies to insure people with pre-existing conditions by regulation.

We have regulations on all kinds of businesses offering services/products. These regulations are there to insure the health and safety of our citizens (you don’t worry that your toothpaste or eye drops are toxic). Since there is a direct correlation between health care payment methodology and the quality of care a patient receives, health insurance companies should be held to the same regulatory standard.

What are some cheap health insurance companies? My mom is a single mom with 3 kids and a mom with Dementia that she is taking care of and a daughter that has disease. She does things for us but doesn’t worry about herself. I am worried about her health. She does not have insurance. She needs cheap but good insurance,any ideas?

I was gonna Reserve a Nissan Leaf but wanted to know the insurance cost before. I called my insurance agent who’s i’m good friends with and asked "How much would insurance be on a Nissan Leaf cost?" he said "We nor any other insurance will insure it." i asked why and he said Oil Companies are paying them because if you cant get insurance on it, you’ll have to go back to gas. Is it illegal for them to do this? I really want a green car.

They are a private business and hav the right to refuse insurance to anyone.

They prob will not insure green cars because there is no current market for it. The prices have not been set by anyone on these cars.

They also are more prone to damage due to their breakability. Thus more likely for claims to be paid out. Its not good for their business.

Amusingly enough, this information is listed in the June 2010 issue of Best’s Review magazine, that I was just reading last night:

I’m going to be 18 soon and my parents have told me they’d like me to find my own car insurance rather than being on theirs. I’ve been driving for 9 months and I haven’t gotten any tickets or been in any accidents, and I’ll get that good-student discount where available. But what insurance companies do you recommend that won’t absolutely kill my part-time paycheck?

Good point about what my parents are required to do, but I won’t be living in their household anymore, so they won’t be required to include me on the insurance.

I guess they think that being able to pull out of the "child only" insurance market is fair?

The insurance companies’ concern that some parents refusing to cover children until they get sick is valid. So, establish an open enrollment period, where you can only sign up for insurance during that time frame.

Pulling out of the child-only insurance market sure isn’t fair – to the children that is. But, Republicans aren’t screaming about that.

Does that mean they’re on the side of the insurance companies and not the children?

Republicans by nature are always on the side of profit, the hell with who dies or suffers as a consequence.
