Friday, December 4th, 2009

We live in Florida, and my son has just turned 16, He wants to get his licenses but we don’t want our insurance to go up too much. From what I hear it is very expensive, yet i hear other people saying that some auto insurance company’s have very cheap rates for adding a first time driver. So if there are any other parents that know of a company that they use that is pretty cheap please let me know.

How much is malpractice insurance for neurosurgeons by state?

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

I need to know the average malpractice insurance for neurosurgeons in different states.I want to practice in a state where the insurance isn’t so expensive.I live in NYC and here, the insurance is almost $100000.I prefer going to another city than giving all that money for the insurance.I never had any problem in my career and I don’t need this type of insurance. Can you help me?

PS. I am paid very well, but I don’t like spending money on things that I don’t need.

There’s no average.

You can’t average no retro date and no tail, with 30 years of prior coverage.

But if you don’t "need" this type of insurance, don’t buy it.

No hospital will actually allow you to use their operating room without it, anywhere, in the USA, but hey, if you don’t NEED it, hey.

As to where it’s cheaper – Not in the state of NY. Generally, the states which limit tort (republican states) are more friendly to doctors. But your professional association, or professional magazines, should be giving you a list of cheaper states. I believe there are at least 45 of them, LOL.

How come health insurance companies are allowed to discriminate against people with disabilities?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

How is it legal for health insurance companies to discriminate against people with disabilities (I mean, medical disabilities), but other companies are not allowed to, like grocery stores are not allowed to? Or maybe it IS legal for other businesses to discriminate against people I am really just curious, that’s all. About the legal process. Health insurance companies kind of make me mad, because of this issue. I know I am expressing a political opinion, but I ask you not to troll. If you have a different opinnion thatn me, you can argue for it, but please don’t start trollin.’

You mean in writing policies? That’s one of the reasons we need health care reform, the insurance companies exclude people with pre-existing conditions. Which kind of ruins the whole concept of insurance, which is based on pooled risk.

How much is homeowners insurance in IL for townhome that’s not covered by the common insurance?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

I’m planning to purchase a townhome and the assessments does include common insurance. I’ve been told it doesn’t protect any misc assets I have in my home in case a disaster occurs. I want to factor this into my monthly expense estimates. I’m looking for a purchase price at $200,000. How much should estimate for homeowners insurance? Is it a monthly and annual payment?

Thanks

You need to call an insurance company for quotes, start with your auto insurance company & go from there. There are many questions, what does the master policy cover? You would need to read the condo bylaws to find out. Does that policy cover everything attached to the unit or only to the studs? Does it cover anything that you add to or alter in the unit? So, you would purchase a condo policy (HO6 form), you would need to find out from the condo association what you actually need to cover. That would be the dwelling limit you need. Then you need to tell the insurance company how much contents coverage you want (if you had to replace everything you own), then get at least $500,000 liability, $5,000 medical payments & get $50,000 (or the company maximum) loss assessment (this covers if you are assessed for damages to common property – simplified definition – you would need to speak to an agent to explain it to you). You would also need to tell the agent the deductible you want (property coverage).
Good luck in your purchase but no one here can give you a quote.
Homeowners insurance is always an annual policy.

Who pays for the home insurance when you let your house?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

I ask this question on behalf of my friend, who lives in Malaysia. He wants to know what the law in England will be in this case.

My friend is gonna let his house to another, so that he can have some income. A question arises: They need to buy a home insurance in case there is an accident like fire. Apparently in Malaysia, a homeowner doesn’t have to buy insurance for his house.

So in this case, who should pay for the home insurance, the homeowner or the tenant? I mean, the rental period is 2 years, and the insurance, if paid, will cover for 2 years only.

whoever owns the house
duh

What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with?

What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with?
I am recently out of the military and need to purchase an individual health ins policy. However, I am not sure which ones are the best. I am a student, do they offer any good student policies? Also, is the SGLI to VGLI conversion a good change to make? If not, which is better term or whole life insurance policies?

How exactly does insurance affect our economy?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

I understand the basics of insurance. That is the transfer of risk. That insurance companies bet on getting more in premiums than they have to pay out in claims. What I’m trying to understand is, how deeply insurance, our ability to purchase it, affects our economy. Please if you could give me some answers regarding this or point me to a site where I can find more information it would be great.

What kind of insurance is best for if something unexpected happens?

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

I’ve read up on insurance policies and found that ones that have high deductibles and low premiums are good for the young and healthy, but what happens if the unexpected happens (not death, but a serious illness or surgery)? Is there a type of insurance for that or some kind of account (mutual fund, etc.) that can be set up for that?

There’s no one single policy, that covers EVERYTHING.

At the very least, you need to narrow it down a bit – house insurance? car insurance? health insurance?

Sounds like you’re talking about HEALTH INSURANCE.

It’s regulated, including coverages, on a state by state basis, so to get information RELEVANT to you, you should probably talk to a local agent.

With health insurance, there is no "great deal". You get what you pay for. Less coverage and/or higher deductibles means lower monthly premiums. Great coverage with low/no deductibles means higher monthly premiums.

Health insurance scams are on the rise. Everything from passing off a discount plan as "insurance", to forged policies (very easily sold over the internet). To avoid being scammed, use a local agent – who’s also there for you when questions arise.

What insurance company began as a way to gather information on people?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

I heard once that an insurance company was began as a guise to collect information and statistics about people. I can’t remember which company it was, though! I thought it was Progressive, but I haven’t been able to find any info on this. Does anyone know?

Not progressive.

I think it’s the Social Security Insurance Program . . .that’s the closest I can think of, and, of course, it’s a government run insurance program.

Can I reimburse myself health insurance costs from my company?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

We used to have individual health insurance, and I would pay for it out of my own company (an S Corp). When we got insurance through my husband’s employer, I stopped reimbursing myself.
He is paid for by the company, and then it costs extra to add myself and our child.

I was just going to deduct health insurance premiums on our Sch A, but we don’t have enough other medical expenses to meet the limit.

Is it ligit to go ahead and reimburse myself the amount that it cost for the health insurance? Then it would be a business expense. Thanks.

No.
The insurance through your husband’s employer does not meet the test of having been established through the S-corp.
