Domino’s Pizza Delivery Driver- do you need commercial insurance?

I have an interview today for a job at Domino’s Pizza to be a delivery driver. My only concern about it is right now I have personal insurance. If I were to get in an accident while delivering a pizza for domino’s, would I still be covered? I’d like to hear from actual insurance reps or people who have had experience with this.

Actually, most personal auto insurance would exclude coverage for any auto that is being used for business reasons. Some may offer a business endorsements to provide such coverage. You may ask your agent about it.

As for the business, most companies have a commercial business policy which include a coverage called "Hired & Non-Owned Auto" (HNO). This is speficially for situations like the one you’re in. However, HNO only covers liability. You may want to ask your new employer if they have this coverage and also if it provides physical damage coverage for your vehicle.

Hope this helps,

    Do you want coverage?

Personal auto policies have an exclusion written into them, for delivery use. While your vehicle is being used for delivery purposes, there’s no coverage – none for your car, none for you, and none for the people/cars you might hit.

I have seen several claims denied, for kids deliverying pizzas with the family car. Domino’s coverage won’t cover you or your car, either.

A very few auto insurance companies MIGHT sell you coverage for it – but none that I’ve ever dealt with.

No. You do not need commercial auto insurance.

You just tell your auto insurance company you want your policy put in a business class because you will be delivering pizza.

It should be no problem and it does not cost that much more. And, you might have to list your employer as an additional insured on the policy but there should be little or no cost to do that. Don’t worry. If your hired your employer will tell you want they want. For now they just want proof that you have auto insurance.
