Step 1 – take the course and pass the test to get license to sell whatever lines of insurance you are interested in. (search insurance schools for ideas)
Step 2: to get appointed as an agent of a specific company, usually go to their website and find a registration form. – or call the company you are interested in selling to get an application to you. Each company is different in their exact process to become appointed.

Well, the first part is the easy part – you just pass a test and pay a fee, and voila! You’re an insurance broker.
Getting companies to appoint you, however, can be very difficult. Impossible, if you’re looking to write PROPERTY coverage. Most of them won’t appoint someone with no experience, as 95% of brokers wash out the first year. You’ll have to sell them on yourself, that you know how to sell, that you can promise them $100,000 of premiums the first year, and here’s your marketing plan to get it.
Easier, would be getting a straight commission job at a local agency, where they keep half your commissions, and you use their contracts. You do that for a few years, until you’ve built up a book of business around $250,000, then you have enough to roll over to your own contract, and you can SHOW it to whichever carrier you’re pleading your case to.
