Buying a second hand car and need some advice on insurance claims?
I was planning on buying a second hand car from a dealership. I got the serial number of the car to do a Car Proof check.
Well, I found out the car was in an accident (the dealer said it had not been) but what concerns me is that it says that "the insurer has not yet paid out the claim".
Does this mean the repairer of the car has not yet been paid, and if so, if I purchase this car, will it make me liable for the payment?
Please help!
Thanks!
It could be that the report has not been updated. If there are no Mechanic’s Liens on the vehicle then, the vehicle is clear to purchase. However this doesn’t mean that a mechanic won’t put on a lien an hour from now, tomorrow or the day after. It’s best to contact Car Proof and confirm this.

If the Car Proof is current, I’d check this out very carefully with the dealer before going ahead, since there may be unrepaired damage to the car. If the previous owner hasn’t been paid, that’s likely, and there’d probably no way you could collect the payment.

You are better just walking away from that car.
