The new company will find your claim and turn you down. How many years has it been since your claim? Tell the new company about the claim and they will tell you right off the bat if they can take you or not. Or, at least they should be able to tell you. I would not switch companies. Things can and do go wrong. If you cancel your current policy and the new company turns you down later or cancels you, the old company may not take you back.

Yes. All insurance companies subscribe to a service called the Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange (CLUE). When the new company gets your application, they'll pull a CLUE report. If you didn't disclose the claim on your application, they'll find out about it, and most likely will uprate or decline to write you.

Yes, your claim will follow you for years, even if you change companies. There is a database where they keep so you can’t really lie about it.
