Idiot! When will …
Idiot! When will people catch on! You are saying that the US govt. can’t do what lots of other country’s can do? So the US has stupider people than Canada or the UK or Singapore? You big dummy!

It seems to present …
It seems to present a very strange situation. The employee will be forced to get workman’s comp in case they get hurt, but (Liberty Mutual) can throw a monkey wrench into any claims made the the injured party. It seems like it would be time to start changing that right now. i did not go to work to help some greedy investors live like kings. The biggest income in the country belongs to an insurance scammer. The working class is not worth helping only dying.

Your point is valid …
Your point is valid but still does not address the underlining problem. The government will not fund research without allowing politics to get involved. The private sector funds research based on their expectation of making a profit. It costs a billion dollars to research, develop, and get FDA approval today. This is before a dollar of profit is made. Then, if someone takes the drug and has an adverse reaction, they sue the company and take whatever profits they have made.

The American people …
The American people allready pay for much of the research done by universities and corporations.
Then when a product is developed that is marketable (I say marketable only because it may not help at all) we pay for it again.
Many researchers would rather help human beings then profit from it anyway. The corporations are the ones that need to see profits.

This is similar to …
This is similar to something I have said. IF we leave private insurance in place (and I don’t favor it), then I’d like to see criminal, not civil, penalties for denial of claims resulting in death. Deny a patient a life saving operation, as did the woman in SICKO, and when the patient dies clearly as a result of that denial, she goes on trial for manslaughter. I know it will never happen, but as far as denial of claims goes, its a thought.

State universities …
State universities funded by whom? The Drug companies! How drugs are brought to market by state universities? NONE!
What does the amount they spend on advertising got to do with how much they spend on R&D? Do you think they would any on R&D if they could not recoup the investment? It takes a billion dollars to bring a single drug to market. Who is going to pay that cost if you impose a price control? Why do you think all the drugs in socialized medicine come from US?

Please.
Please.

The ‘hard’ part of …
The ‘hard’ part of R&D – i.e. necessary but unprofitable research – is done mostly in state (university) owned laboratories; this is true even – or particularly – in the U.S. I would recommend that you read David Bollier’s Silent Theft, esp. the chapters on the knowledge commons.
Btw, according to a Science Daily 2007 study, Big Pharma spends twice as much promoting their drugs than they do in R&D. Maybe you should check that out too.

You can lower costs …
You can lower costs through price controls but then you lose private investment in research and development. What company is going to invest a billion dollars to research and develop a new medication if the patient will run out before they recoup the investment?

if france really …
if france really does achieve better results, it’s not due to price controls, it’s in spite of them.

I love my Insurance …
I love my Insurance company. My health and hazard insurance companies love me to.
Insurance was started by crooks that if you didn’t pay them they burnt or trashed your business or home.
When will we wake up and find that almost none of these politicains know how to save the American people a dime.

It becomes a …
It becomes a question of belief when a country like France achieves much better overall results with lower costs using price controls and people like yourself refuse to face reality.
Freemarketeers are more deluded than creationists.

a heart doctor gets …

it’s not a question …
it’s not a question of belief. price controls inevitably lead to higher prices not matter what your nationality. if it’s not $20 band aids in europe, it will be something else.

You tell ‘em Dennis …
You tell ‘em Dennis!
But we all know millions are being spent each week now by the Health Insurance Industry to continue to rip us off AND MANY OF THOSE MILLIONS ARE GOING TO DEMOCRATS.

In Yemen, there is …
In Yemen, there is no government healthcare. If you can’t pay, you die.
I like Ron Paul too, but just because he says something, it doesn’t mean it’s true. If government messed up everything, why even have government. Why not just get rid of the police and fire department? Why not just have private companies offer paying citizens their services?
July 31st, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Wrong the problem …
Wrong the problem was caused by the government. It is called Medicare. The government did not pay for services provided and force the cost on the others. The government made a promise and then could not PAY FOR IT.
Sounds very familiar to me.

You believe in what you want.
No $20 band aids in Europe.

They should call insurance…in case !
July 31st, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Everything that …
Everything that gets insured goes up in price.
Greedy doctors are the are culprit. No one forced them to raise their rates like they did. They happily feed at the gov teat and look down on people on welfare. All this BS needs to stop. Where are the “free market” people? What people can/willing to pay should be what sets the price of medical care. People put up with this BS when they don’t pay the premiums and not the bill directly.
