Different methods of getting insurance quotes?
I intend to go use the current policies for my car and home when getting insurance quotes. Some people say if you do it on your own online, you can make mistakes and make wrong coverage or higher premiums, but that happens even if you go through a broker or those Customer Service Reps at a insurance company.
What exactly are the differences in getting quotes online versus getting one from a human broker? I expect biased answers, but if you try to be fair that would be helpful in helping people saving money in these hard times. Thanks!

Brokers are able to go to many different companies for quotes. Ideally they take the time to get to know you and your needs and then shop the market accordingly
Agents represent one company. Like a broker they can help you by getting to know you and matching the right coverage to your needs. They are disadvantaged in the sense that they only have one option.
Going online is an option for shopping around. But if a broker or agent gives a quote that is competitive I’d say it is worth having a local professional who knows me (at least a little) as my representative. You don’t know what you don’t know … so doing it yourself could lead to problems
Hope that helps

Rates differ from online and local broker. You might want to get free quotes online first then ask your broker.

When you go to brokers and insurance reps then you are pretty much at there mercy because then you are taking there word for what they say that you can get and being that they get a commission on how many contracts they finalize then you never know whether they are being completely honest with you.
You say that times are hard and that statement is so true which also means that everybody is out to get a penny made so just because there an insurance rep doesn’t mean that they don’t feel the crunch as well and besides some of them have been doing the business for so long that they become numb to peoples needs and tend to see the benefit for them only but you never know not all are like that but there are some who are.
In any case if you get a quote online then you will at least know what you are eligible for and if you still want to go to a broker or rep then you can but then you at least will have in your mind what your options really are in comparison to what they are saying.
I wouldn’t trust anyone’s word without proof or knowledge of the situation in these hard times. Sometimes it’s best to do both and compare for yourself which is the best deal especially if it doesn’t cost you any more money to do so.
There’s a link below to start you on your way they usually have really cheap quotes and it’s free so it wont hurt to try them first.
Good Luck!!
